The Severn Whalers

Capture.PNG

The Severn Whalers are a group of friends and sea shanty singers based in the village of Almondsbury, Bristol. We were formed in 2017 following a challenge from another group based in Cornwall, the Press Gang, to put a group together and take part in an inaugural sea shanty festival to be held in the village of Tywardreath near Par.  The feat was achieved!

18 months later, the group is going from strength to strength and is starting to become better known both in the Bristol area and further afield.

Whilst performing at various sea shanty festivals during 2018 including Tywardreath, Teignmouth and St Ives the Whalers, in conjunction with the Longest Johns, hosted the inaugural 'Severn Seas' Bristol sea shanty festival which saw 8 groups participating during the weekend including a young dynamic group from Barcelona, El Pony Pisador (The Prancing Pony for Lord of the Ring aficionados). Four of the groups including the Whalers performed on the bandstand stage at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta in August.

This year the Whalers will be spreading their wings and performing at more events, including the prestigious Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival in June.
